Japanese Interpreter

Job Purpose

Provide consecutive, first-person interpretation.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provides consecutive interpreting; never paraphrases, omits or embellishes.
  • Follows interpreter protocol as trained by CyraCom Testing & Training Department.
  • Follows all CyraCom policies related to information confidentiality and interpreter ethics, as trained by CyraCom Testing & Training.
  • Continuously improves vocabulary and specialized knowledge of subject matter required for various clients. e.g., medical, legal, social services, etc.
  • Completes the daily call log for each call received, noting technical problems.
  • Works to develop improved and more efficient note-taking skills that facilitates better interpretation; makes appropriate note-taking a skilled habit.
  • Completes required forms when applicable, and gives it to supervisor for processing
  • Reports significant sound and connection problems to supervisor.
  • Develops and uses attention-focusing techniques to improve listening skills.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to organize and plan work adhering to priorities and deadlines; ability to prioritize and delegate multiple work projects; strong attention to detail; excellent two-way communication, judgment, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills; ability to adjust to rapidly changing circumstances and priorities; ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations; excellent presentation skills and ability to favorably represent the company. Ability to communicate effectively with all clients. Basic understanding of linguistics and different cultures. Basic understanding of interpretation protocol and code of ethics.

Education/Training:

High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

  • At least one-year verifiable interpreter experience preferred
  • Strong fluency in both English and target language is required

Certifications/Licenses:

None.

Applicants must pass a Quality Assurance Assessment based on language availability.


Working Conditions

Work Location:

Interpreter Call Center

Physical Demands:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time. Interpreter Center positions are typical of inbound call center facilities with standard call center performance and behavioral management. The agent spends approximately 90% of their work time on the phone interpreting conversations between English and their target language.

Equipment Operated:

Telephone, agent headset, desktop PC, standard desktop applications.
